For Young Riders from Overseas

About Participation in the DOWNHILL SERIES Kids Class

We have welcomed several young riders from overseas to the DOWNHILL SERIES in the past, and we are happy to welcome young riders from around the world.

At DOWNHILL SERIES, riders of elementary school age are required to be recommended by one of our partner organizations in order to participate.

For young riders from overseas, however, obtaining a recommendation from one of our partner organizations may be difficult. Therefore, overseas riders who wish to participate should contact the DOWNHILL SERIES organizing team directly.

Instead of a recommendation from a partner organization, our organizing team will review the rider’s riding video, race results from events they have participated in in their home country, and other relevant information to determine whether the rider is eligible to participate.

If the rider holds a license issued by their national cycling federation or a UCI license, please also provide details of the license when contacting us.

About the DOWNHILL SERIES Kids Class

The DOWNHILL SERIES Kids Class is operated with a strong focus on balancing safety and competitive standards.

It is not intended as an entry-level race for children who are participating in a downhill race for the first time. Rather, it is a stage for young riders who have prepared and trained in advance and are ready to take on the challenge of downhill racing.

The courses used for the DOWNHILL SERIES are designed primarily for riders aged 17 and over. We maintain the level of difficulty required for JCF-sanctioned events and the standards expected of Japan’s only national downhill race series. The difficulty of the courses will not be reduced because young riders are participating.

The courses are therefore not designed specifically for children. Young riders will ride the same courses, in the same environment, as adult riders.

Participation is based on the rider and their parent or guardian understanding the course and the level of competition, and making their own decision to participate at their own responsibility.

Even if a rider has been recommended by a partner organization, the DOWNHILL SERIES organizing team may ask the rider not to start or to stop participating if, based on their actual riding during the event, we determine that it is unsafe for the rider to continue.

Please note that if we determine during the event that a rider’s riding is unsafe, we may ask the rider not to participate.

KIDS OF JAPAN

Please note that KIDS OF JAPAN, held once a year, is open only to elementary and junior high school students who hold Japanese nationality.

Young riders from overseas are not eligible to participate in KIDS OF JAPAN and will instead compete in the DOWNHILL SERIES Open Kids Class.
